    • About MeIllustration work I’ve been an artist since the late 90′s, and a published illustrator since 1999, when a couple of magazines featured my work at the same time. Since then, I’ve completed many works for various publishers, from small micro-press publishers up through larger publishers like Subterranean and Cemetery Dance. I’m lucky enough to have had a piece chosen for the prestigious Spectrum annual, a yearly competition and book for the best in contemporary genre artwork. The artwork was originally for Wicked Hollow #1, a small press magazine, and is titled “Fetal Position”. It appeared in Spectrum 9, and somehow was the only grayscale piece for 20 pages in any direction. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="450" caption="Fetal Position"][/caption] Since then I’ve done work for Subterranean Press’s Night Visions 12, part of the prestigious line of Night Visions books stretching back to the 1980′s. My work for the Maelstrom imprint of Thunderstorm Books will be seen at the end of 2010. I did three covers and signature sheets for three of their books: Six Days by Kelli Owen, and The Rising: Deliverance and A Gathering of Crows, both by Brian Keene. I’ve worked quite a bit with Cemetery Dance Publications as well,…

Of Caves and Alien Worlds

I think exploring caves gives you a chance to see an entirely different environment from what you are used to.

Infecting the frame around the art

I decided, since I had a few old frames left over from another project, that the best thing to do would be to destroy the ever-loving hell out of one of them.

New Art: My first acrylic – no giggling

Sometimes, I shudder to post new ideas or new techniques that I try. I never know if they really work out, if they are ok but just need work, or if they are so awful that the sun will shrivel up and we’ll all die. But, I also think that Read more…

Seeing it in real life: Church’s The Icebergs

Awhile back (and by “awhile back” I mean “over a year ago”) I wrote an art blog of Frederic Edwin Church’s beautiful painting called The Icebergs (check out the blog here… I”ll wait.) I won’t bore you with the specs again (I’ll be boring you with other ways now), but Read more…

Another new one: A Violent Reaction

So, I decided to put all that anger and frustration into my artwork, and see if I can’t work out some issues.

Hold on to your hats! A new art piece (finally)

My goal is to have a new one each month, and I’m just squeaking this one in under the wire.

Sketching every day

I’ve made a conscious effort to sketch every day, even if it’s something small, in the last two weeks.

VisionCon and the things I’m bringing

I’ll probably at least bring business cards and mini-cards, but talking online today with Cullen Bunn I also considered “monster cards’.

Hey imagine that: New art by me!

I’ve been trying to get back into art as strongly as I can, especially with my being a guest at VisionCon in January.  It’s been tough, between family life, day job, being out of town for said job, and so on.  But I managed to squeeze in some time this Read more…

Music and the artist Part 1: Soundtracks

An interesting discussion came up today (both online and in real life) about what music drives our particular passions.   I decided to go through my iTunes library and really see which tracks influence my art, or at least which tracks really drive me in certain directions with the type and Read more…

A YouTube promo for my art

I’m working on a Flash book trailer for a  client (you’ll see soon enough, it’s not a small client), and for testing with converting Flash animation to video I decided to create a promo for my own art. After a number of unique issues (I’m looking at you, Kaspersky), I Read more…

New Piece: Asylum Days

While I was helping my daughter with my homework, I decided to work out some Monday sort of frustrations with new artwork.  I don’t think it turned out too bad actually. I call it, “Asylum Days”.
