    • About MeIllustration work I’ve been an artist since the late 90′s, and a published illustrator since 1999, when a couple of magazines featured my work at the same time. Since then, I’ve completed many works for various publishers, from small micro-press publishers up through larger publishers like Subterranean and Cemetery Dance. I’m lucky enough to have had a piece chosen for the prestigious Spectrum annual, a yearly competition and book for the best in contemporary genre artwork. The artwork was originally for Wicked Hollow #1, a small press magazine, and is titled “Fetal Position”. It appeared in Spectrum 9, and somehow was the only grayscale piece for 20 pages in any direction. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="450" caption="Fetal Position"][/caption] Since then I’ve done work for Subterranean Press’s Night Visions 12, part of the prestigious line of Night Visions books stretching back to the 1980′s. My work for the Maelstrom imprint of Thunderstorm Books will be seen at the end of 2010. I did three covers and signature sheets for three of their books: Six Days by Kelli Owen, and The Rising: Deliverance and A Gathering of Crows, both by Brian Keene. I’ve worked quite a bit with Cemetery Dance Publications as well,…

Digital Art: Old Man Darkness Revisited

Last year, I created a tattoo for the great author Michael T. Huyck, Jr., based on an idea he had (see it here). Being that it was for a tattoo, I created it as a grayscale piece to keep things simple. As I’m approaching my visit to the World Horror Read more…

Mixed Media: Here at the end of the line

I’ve been wanting to work in more color with my inks, and I’ve had a number of ideas run through the old noggin. I thought it would be fun to try an experiment with ink and color, so I started in with a sketch of a skull. Not just any Read more…

Ink Art: Waiting for a turn

Sometimes when I start a new personal piece of art, I don’t necessarily have a direction in mind. I might have a general idea, or a smidgen of something in my head. In many cases, such as last week’s ink (see that here), I know exactly what I want out Read more…

Ink Art: A Limit of Endurance

A few things have been rolling around in my head this week. First, the fact that my son used up all of my larger watercolor stock. Second, there have been a lot of Lovecraftian and “King in Yellow” ideas in my brain, probably because I binge watched True Detective the Read more…

My Digital Art: Abashed The Devil

I’ve written quite a few blog articles for the Apex Book Company, and every so often I’ll add a piece of my own art to my writing. Sometimes it’s a pre-existing piece, and every so often I’ll create a brand new piece to go with the article. The article I Read more…

New Art: Old Man Darkness (Tattoo)

Awhile back, I was lucky enough to finally meet an author in person that I’d known online for a number of years. Then the author, Michael T. Huyck (go visit his site, people), asked if I could do some tattoo art for him. I’ve had the question before, but I’ve Read more…

New Acrylic Painting: Hadrosaur-ish

I’ve been working on a number of projects, and one of those is to expand the offerings that I’ll have at my Spectrum Live booth this coming May. To that end, I’m trying to create a number of small acrylic paintings to have there. I’ve also wanted, for some time, Read more…

Of Unusual Things and Monsters

I was recently looking around my office for a reference for a piece I’m working on, and after a short search I came up with what I was looking for. But when I was done I came to an interesting conclusion. I sure do have a lot of stuff. Now, Read more…

The new painting: “Consequences”

Though I’ll try and get better pictures of it once it’s dry, I decided to go ahead and add my newest acrylic painting to the site. I call it, Consequences: I’m really having fun with acrylics (and inks for that matter), but they are far different from my digital pieces. Read more…

Color sketching and fun with Photoshop

I’ve been picking away at a color sketch in Photoshop, and I think it’s finally done.  I try to do pencil sketching, ink and crosshatching practice and Photoshop/digital sketching and manipulation each week just to get new ideas rolling around in my head.  Sometimes they work, other times not so Read more…
