I’ve been a fan of time bandits since it came out (yes, I’m that old), so I decided to do a movie poster(ish) design for it. As with the other movie posters I’ve done, this is just for enjoyment, they are unofficial.

But they do give me a  good opportunity to stretch my artistic muscles, without necessarily getting bloody about it. I’ve been gradually starting to work on my techniques and abilities, and this is a good way to combine what would essentially be sketching time with an actual piece.

Along with having one of my favorite lines, the personification of evil in Time Bandits (portrayed by David Warner) has always been unique. The scenes near the end, especially, are fantastically directed by Terry Gilliam, and wonderfully acted by Warner.

The art here is done in vectors (CorelDraw/Illustrator), and here’s the black and white version:

I also decided to try a quick color version, more or less just a gradient behind the art:

Once it was in Photoshop, however, I felt the need to toy around with it some. I combined a few texture elements with it, and played with the layer blending modes to get a very different look for the poster.

As always, let me know what you think. Also, which one is your favorite?
