As I’m jumping back in on the art thing this week (see the previous article), I wanted to try something, well, harsh.

I wanted to try and create an ink card that was very dark, and really only show the barest of highlights. It’s tricky for sure, and to be perfectly honest I’m not sure how well it worked out.

However, I do also believe that there can be no real triumph without putting it all on the line, so here it is below. I decided to add a slightly colored ink wash to it as well, to enhance things. I would say it might have a touch more color than the original image does, but I’m ok with that part.

First though, I’ll let you see if you know who it is (doubtful):

As a hint, I’ll add, “Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?”.

Which means you’d not only have to recognize it, and I would have had to do a good job, but you’d also have had to see the movie, which is a cult film.

The character is Frank, or at least Frank in costume, from the film Donnie Darko. By not showing the bunny ears, and more of the teeth, I may have made it a bit unrecognizable to even someone who’s seen the film.

It was a choice, as was making it so dark, and I think that’s the only way I’ll learn. In this new week, in the new light (again, last article), I need to boldly try new things.

It’s all about the adventure, and this was the first jump into the wild. Opinions are always welcome.
